Exam Day Guidelines Issued by NTA – Dress Code, Reporting Time, Mandatory Documents & Prohibited Items Explained

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the official Exam Day Guidelines for candidates appearing in NEET UG 2026. These instructions are intended to ensure a smooth, fair, and transparent examination process across all examination centres in the country. Every candidate is advised to carefully read and follow these guidelines before reaching the examination centre, as failure to comply with the prescribed rules may lead to inconvenience or even denial of entry.

One of the most important instructions issued by the NTA is regarding the reporting time. Candidates must reach their allotted examination centre well before the reporting time mentioned on their admit card. The examination centre gates will close at the specified time, and no candidate will be allowed to enter after the gates are closed under any circumstances. Students are therefore advised to leave their homes early, keeping traffic, weather conditions, and travel delays in mind.

The NTA has also clarified that candidates should carry all mandatory documents on the examination day. Every student must bring a printed copy of the NEET UG 2026 Admit Card along with a valid original photo identity proof such as Aadhaar Card, Passport, PAN Card, Driving Licence, or Voter ID. Candidates may also be required to carry a passport-size photograph identical to the one uploaded during the application process. PwBD candidates should additionally carry the relevant disability certificate, if applicable. Without proper documents, candidates may not be permitted to appear for the examination.

Along with document verification, the NTA has once again implemented a strict dress code to maintain transparency during the examination. Candidates are advised to wear light-coloured clothes with half sleeves and avoid garments with large buttons, embroidery, metallic accessories, or unnecessary decorations. Slippers or sandals with low heels are recommended instead of shoes with thick soles. Heavy jewellery, watches, smartwatches, fitness bands, rings, bracelets, and similar accessories should not be worn inside the examination centre.

Candidates wearing customary or religious attire are allowed to appear for the examination; however, they are advised to report well before the reporting time so that additional security checks can be completed without causing delays.

The NTA has also issued a list of prohibited items that are strictly not allowed inside the examination hall. Candidates must not carry mobile phones, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices, earphones, calculators, pen drives, cameras, wallets, handbags, written notes, books, study material, or any electronic gadgets. Carrying such items may lead to disciplinary action under the examination rules. Candidates are therefore advised to leave unnecessary belongings at home, as examination centres may not provide facilities for safekeeping personal items.

Before entering the examination hall, every candidate will undergo security screening and biometric verification. Identity verification may include fingerprint scanning, photograph verification, and document checking. Candidates are expected to cooperate with the examination staff during these procedures to ensure a smooth entry process. Those arriving early will have sufficient time to complete all formalities without unnecessary stress.

After entering the examination hall, candidates should immediately occupy the seat allotted to them. They should carefully verify that the question booklet and OMR answer sheet provided to them are correct. If there is any discrepancy in the booklet code, candidate details, or answer sheet, it should be reported immediately to the invigilator before the examination begins. Candidates must not open the question booklet until instructed by the invigilator.

The NTA has also advised candidates to fill the OMR answer sheet carefully. All required details such as roll number and booklet code should be entered correctly. Candidates should completely darken the answer bubbles and avoid overwriting, scratching, or using correction fluid. Incorrect marking of the OMR sheet may affect the evaluation process.

Maintaining discipline inside the examination hall is equally important. Talking to other candidates, exchanging stationery, attempting unfair means, or violating examination rules can result in cancellation of candidature. Candidates should carefully listen to every instruction announced by the invigilator and strictly follow the examination rules throughout the test duration.

Students are also advised to maintain personal hygiene and carry only those items that are specifically permitted by the examination authorities. Any candidate requiring special medical assistance should carry the necessary supporting documents as prescribed by the NTA guidelines.

Parents and guardians have also been requested to cooperate with the examination authorities by avoiding unnecessary crowding near the examination centres. Candidates should remain calm, confident, and focused on the examination instead of worrying about last-minute issues.
